Something in the Fog

Everywhere and everything around her was engulfed in flame. People were running and screaming. She looked up at an orange sky full of blue energy bursts, black smoke, and an assortment of different types of spaceships. Over to the east of her, where one sun should have been setting was instead a glowing mass of dark smoke. Overhead, the other sun burnt red like everything else. They were all going to die, and she could feel it down into the very center of her bones.

There was a flash, then screaming...

Kira bolted up write in her bed, when she looked at the clock on her desk it read 5.33 in the morning. Another dream, another nightmare, she realized. She sighed, only another hour and she'd have to leave for work. She climbed out of bed changed into a pair of dark jeans a white collar shirt and white tennis shoes. She brushed her long blonde hair and then her teeth. She kissed her daughter, Elizabeth good-bye, left a note for her sister, Amelia to watch her for her, then went on her way to work, grabbing her long black coat and computer bag as she headed out.

She arrived at work in fast time. The traffic was light, considering it was 6.20 now. She stepped out of her blue Beatle, but before heading to the water tower, she often like heading in from over head, she went to a café and bought herself some breakfast, a bacon sandwich, then headed back across into work. She stepped on the 'invisible block' and it lowered her down into the Torchwood Hub.

"Oi! Anyone home?" She called out playfully, stepping off the concrete block to the floor of the Hub. She walked straight to her computer. "Anything new?" She called out again. She didn't expect anyone to answer, she after all was early. She wondered if today would be another false alarm as it had been last or would today be different.

Left this one open for anyone who wants to join. Starts off normal, then changes. ^_^]

Ianto groaned as he woke up and looked at the clock. It read 5.44. He sighed and closed his eyes and rolled over. Jack was already gone from bed. Jack was almost always gone when he woke up. That man hardly slept. But he did sleep despite claiming he never did. Ianto sighed again as he sat up. He'd never be able to fall asleep again. He his face with hands and got out of bed.

As he started climbing out of the bunker, Ianto thought about the day ahead. He hoped things would be quiet today. The past week had been busy and they all could use a break. Ianto headed to the showers, not sure where Jack was.

After showering quickly Ianto doned his usual suit and tie. Red shirt today, it was his colour. He headed back to the main Hub area and up to his coffee machine. A glance to his watch told him it was now 6.20. Even though the team wouldn't come in until a while later, Ianto started making coffee. Jack would turn up wanting some. Ianto was good at antipating the needs of the team.

A little while passed and he heard the invisible lift desending and a voice calling out 'Oi! Anyone home? Anything new?'. It was Kira. Ianto lifted down her mug and filled it with fresh coffee.

'I'm here,' he said coming up to her station and handing her the mug. 'And nothing is really new around here. Not yet, anyway.' He smiled.

Kira set her laptop bag and coffee down at her desk and logged in to her computer. She pulled her long black coat tighter around her, it was abnormally cold in the Hub, she noted as she opened up the Rift documenter and read over the latest readings coming from the space time fault. Everything looked normal except for one small spike.

She reached into her desk and took out a piece of paper and zoomed in to try to calculate the location of the spike and if it was anything alarming, but she stopped mid-way through the first calculation and froze when she heard something move from somewhere behind her.

She grinned and sighed of relief seeing it was Ianto. "Bloody hell, Ianto you're up early." She eagerly took the coffee from his hands and took a big drink. Ianto's coffee was the best as far as she could remember. "Thank you." She said with a grin, setting it down on the computer console beside her. "Up early I see, couldn't sleep either?" She looked at him, then climbed up on the stool and started to resume her computations. "Just those dreams again, keeping me up." That's all she ever said dreams. She knew the other's knew that they were of her past, a past she couldn't remember.

"Nothing new. With this place? There's always something knew that we have to run around about." She joked, then looked up at her screen, flicking through the overnight readings on the Rift. "Looks like we had a bit of activity." She said pointing with her pen as several smaller spikes. "I wouldn't say anything major, but should still keep an eye on. What do you say?" She looked at Ianto.

Ianto nodded to her. 'You're welcome, and so are you,' he said with a smile as Kira took the coffee quickly from his hands. The team was always eager for coffee in the mornings and Ianto enjoyed having it ready for them. He shrugged at her question and only answered it with another question. 'Your dreams? Can you remember anything from them?' he asked casually. Ianto wasn't sure what kind of answer he'd get but he guessed it wouldn't be much.

He nodded he second question. 'Do you have a location we can check out?'
